American war hero who was an officer in the Union Army during the American Civil War and received the Medal of Honor for his actions in the Battle of Baxter Springs.
He became a member of the Underground Railroad and helped escaped slaves to freedom.
He wrote a book called Eccentricities of Genius in 1900.
He was married twice and had a son, James Pond Jr. who took over his business after his death.
He became a lecture manager after his time in the war and one of his clients was Mark Twain .
