James Marcus Schuyler
ABOUT JAMES MARCUS SCHUYLER
New York School poet who won a Pulitzer Prize for The Morning of the Poem, a collection published in 1980. His other works include The Crystal Lithium and A Sun Cab.
He was born in Chicago in 1923 and attended West Virginia's Bethany College in the early 1940s.
He served as a curator for traveling exhibitions at New York's Museum of Modern Art.
He was gay, but kept his romantic relationships private. He was born in Chicago to Margaret Daisy Connor and Marcus Schuyler.
He and John Ashbery were contemporaries and fellow New York School poets. The two collaborated on a 1987 work entitled A Nest of Ninnies.
