Realist painter whose best-known works included landscapes and portraits of people and animals. Considered the artistic heir to the Brandywine School tradition.

He bought the Lobster Cover property on Maine's Monhegan Island that belonged to renowned illustrator Rockwell Kent .

His 1984 painting "Night Vision" was an artistic tribute to veterans of the Vietnam War.

He was born into an artistic family. The son of the renowned painter Andrew Wyeth he began studying with his artist aunt Carolyn Wyeth when he was twelve years old. He married Phyllis Mills, the daughter of James P. Mills and Alice du Pont Mills, in 1968.

He painted a portrait of Andy Warhol during the 1970s.
