ABOUT JAMINI ROY
Influential painter whose best-known works included "Bride and Two Companions" and "Dual Cats With One Crayfish." He rebelled against the Bengal School and the Western tradition of painting.
He studied at the Government School of Art in Calcutta beginning at age sixteen.
He received the State Award of Padma Bhushan in 1955.
He came from a wealthy family of landowners.
He and actor Shashi Kapoor were both recipients of the Padma Bhushan honor.
