ABOUT JANET LEWIS
The wife of poet Yvor Winters, she was also a poet and novelist in her own right. Her best-known works include The Wife of Martin Guerre and The Indians in the Woods.
She attended the University of Chicago and later taught at both the University of California-Berkeley and Stanford University.
She was a member of the University of Chicago's Poetry Club.
She and Yvor Winters were married in 1926. Together, they established a literary magazine called Gyroscope.
Edith Thomas was another prominent female poet.
