He was a great basketball player who also won national secondary school titles in track and field.

He set the All Blacks try-scoring record with 44 tries in 60 Test matches.

He married former New Zealand netball team captain Adine Wilson .

He was teammates with Ian Jones on the All Blacks team which finished as runners-up in the 1995 Rugby World Cup.
