Bestselling American author known for her work in the young adult (YA) and new adult (NA) book genres, particularly within paranormal, fantasy, and contemporary romance. She has written several widely popular book series, including Lux (2012-2015), Blood and Ash (2020-2024), and Covenant (2011-2013), and she has also amassed a large following on Instagram with over 400,000 followers.

She began writing as a teenager and found herself wanting to pursue it as a full-time career in college. Her early work in the paranormal romance genre helped her eventually get her successful Lux series published, the first book Lux being published in the year 2012. She initially published works under both her full name and the pen name J. Lynn for her adult contemporary romance fiction.

Her book From Blood and Ash (2020) won the 2020 Goodreads Choice Award for Romance and became a major hit in the fantasy genre. Her book The Problem With Forever won a 2017 RITA Award for Best Young Adult Fiction. She founded ApollyCon, an annual event that gathers bestselling authors and fans for book signings, panels, and other events, in 2015.

She was born and raised in Martinsburg, West Virginia.
