After graduating from Case Western Reserve University, he received his PhD in political science from Harvard University.
He considered running for John Kerry 's senate seat in 2008.
He was born in East Cleveland, Ohio. With his wife, Monica Corsi, he had a daughter.
He opposed the presidency of George W. Bush .
