Jerry Pinkney
ABOUT JERRY PINKNEY
Famed illustrator and writer of children's books. His works John Henry and The Lion & the Mouse received the Boston Globe-Horn Book Award and the Caldecott Medal respectively.
He briefly attended the Philadelphia Museum College of Art prior to dropping out to start a family.
He worked on the Black Heritage Stamp Series for the United States Postal Service in the 1970's.
He and his wife had four children. He passed away in late 2021 from a heart attack.
He was appointed to the National Council of the Arts by President George W. Bush .
