Catholic apologist, author, broadcaster, podcast host, and long-running senior staffer at Catholic Answers known for his weekly appearances on the syndicated radio show Catholic Answers Live, for being a contributor to Catholic Answers Magazine, for his prolific writing on scripture, doctrine, and liturgy, and for co-hosting the hit podcast Jimmy Akin's Mysterious World.

He grew up Protestant and wanted to become a Protestant minister but after studying scripture he converted to Catholicism. He joined the Catholic Church in 1992. He began serving as a senior staffer at Catholic Answers in 1993. He published his first book The Fathers Know Best in 2010. He launched Jimmy Akin's Mysterious World in 2018.

He is Catholic Answers longest-tenured apologist. His top selling books are The Fathers Know Best, Mass Revision, The Drama of Salvation, A Daily Defense, Teaching with Authority, and The Bible Is a Catholic Book. He discussed UFOs and faith with former U.S. Housing Secretary Dr. Ben Carson in 2023.

He is from Texas. He married his wife Renée in the late 1980s. She died from an aggressive cancer in 1992 when she was only 27 years old.
