Composed I'm in the Mood for Love and On the Sunny Side of the Street. He wrote over 500 songs from the 1920s until 1950s.
He used to be a pianist and song-plugger for Irving Berlin 's publishing house.
He was posthumously inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame in 1970.
He married Edna Cantor McHugh in 1938, but they divorced in 1946. They had one child together.
His songs were recorded by many artists, including Frank Sinatra , Peggy Lee , and Ella Fitzgerald .
