ABOUT JOE HAYES
Bilingual storyteller and writer who became known for his works of southwestern American folklore. His Spanish and English literary works include
The Weeping Woman and The Terrible Tragadabas.
After graduating in 1968 from the University of Arizona, he pursued a career as a high school English teacher.
His numerous literary honors include the Arizona Young Readers Award and the New Mexico Governor's Award.
He and his four siblings were born in Pennsylvania and raised in Arizona. He later settled in New Mexico.
He and Daniel Olivas both published bilingual works of children's literature.
