He began his career with the Washington Senators in 1930.
He was considered the best defensive first baseman in the American League in the 1930s.
His brother John also made a brief appearance in the American League in the 1940s.
He finished 6th in American League MVP voting in 1936, with the Yankees Lou Gehrig taking home the honor.
