Johannes Rebmann

ABOUT JOHANNES REBMANN

German explorer and religious missionary who became the first European to locate Mt. Kilimanjaro.

He was born in Gerlingen, Wurttemberg to a winegrower and farmer father.

He stayed on the African continent for nearly thirty years.

His 1876 marriage to Louise Dauble Rebmann lasted less than a year, as he passed away from pneumonia in the fall.

He and Placide Tempels both served as missionaries in Africa.
