John Balaban
ABOUT JOHN BALABAN
American poet, author, and translator known for After Our War, Words for My Daughter, and other works. He received both a Guggenheim Fellowship and a William Carlos Williams Award.
He studied at both Pennsylvania State University and Harvard University. He published his debut poetry collection in 1974.
He taught at a Vietnamese college during the Vietnam War and became an expert on the country's literature.
He was born to Romanian immigrants who lived in a Philadelphia housing project.
He and Charles Johnson both received Guggenheim Fellowships for their literary work.
