John Chaney
ABOUT JOHN CHANEY
Basketball coach who won fame for his successful career as the head coach of the Temple University Owls between 1982 and 2006. He was the AP coach of the year in 1988, and was inducted into the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame in 2001.
He graduated from Bethune-Cookman College. He first coached college basketball at Cheyney State College.
He was inducted into the National Collegiate Basketball Hall of Fame in 2006. He won the Henry Iba Award in 1987 and 1988 as the United States' top college basketball coach.
He passed away in January 2021. He is survived by his wife, Jeanne and daughter Pamela.
He coached Dionte Christmas during his long head coaching career for Temple University.
