ABOUT JOHN DARNTON
Worked for the New York Times from 1966 to 2005. In 1982, he won the Pulitzer for Journalism for his extensive coverage of Poland.
He graduated from the University of Wisconsin-Madison in the early 1960s.
He received both the Polk Award in 1982 for his contributions to Journalism.
He had three children with his wife Nina.
He won the Pulitzer Prize for International Reporting in 1982 -- the year before Thomas Friedman did.
