ABOUT JOHN THOMPSON DORRANCE
Chemist and entrepreneur remembered for his invention of a soup condensing process. He led Campbell Soup Company during the second two decades of the twentieth century.
After graduating from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, he earned a Ph.D. from the University of Göttingen.
After his 1930 death from heart disease, the states of Pennsylvania and New Jersey were involved in an extended legal battle over the rights to his estate's death taxes.
He grew up in Pennsylvania and later settled in Cinnaminson Township, New Jersey. His marriage to Ethel Mallinckrot produced four daughters and one son.
He and Donald Goerke both invented Campbell's Soup processes and products. Goerke created Campbell's Chunky Soup and Spaghetti-O's.
