John Egan
ABOUT JOHN EGAN
Irish defender who has played with Sheffield United in the EFL Championship Club and with the Republic of Ireland national club. He is popular on Instagram and has over 50,000 followers.
He began playing with Greenwood in 2000 when he was eight years old. He joined Sunderland at the youth level in 2009 and got moved up to their senior team in 2011.
He began playing with the national team for the Republic of Ireland in 2017. He was promoted to captain in September 2019. He was named FAI Senior International Player of the Year for 2020.
His father, also named John Egan, was a well-known Gaelic football player, and his mother, Mary Egan, was a professional soccer player.
He and James McClean have both played for the Republic of Ireland national team.
