ABOUT JOHN W. GALBREATH
Champion horse-racer who also owned the Pittsburgh Pirates baseball team for four decades.
He made a fortune developing properties in the U.S. and internationally and used that money to buy the Pirates and establish a thoroughbred horse farm.
His Pirates won the World Series in 1971 and 1979, while two of his horses won the Kentucky Derby and another won the Preakness and Belmont Stakes in 1974.
He married Dorothy Bryan Firestone, widow of the tire and rubber company founder.
His Pirates featured Hall-of-Famer Bill Mazeroski .
