ABOUT JOHN H. JOHNSON
Publisher and entrepreneur who founded Johnson Publishing as well as the magazines Ebony and Jet. He was a recipient of both the Spingarn Medal (presented by the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People) and the prestigious Presidential Medal of Freedom.
He earned a scholarship to attend the University of Chicago.
He penned an autobiography entitled Succeeding against the Odds.
He married Eunice Walker in 1941.
He became the first African-American to be listed by Malcolm Forbes ' Forbes Magazine as one of the 400 Richest Americans.
