ABOUT JOHN HAINES
Former Poet Laureate of Alaska whose wilderness-themed works include The Owl in the Mask of the Dreamer and The Stars, the Snow, the Fire. Three years before his death, he released a literary audio recording entitled Winter Light.
He began his life in Norfolk, Virginia and later ventured into the wilds of Alaska.
He was the recipient of two Guggenheim Fellowships.
He was married and divorced five times. His marital woes were the result of both his difficult personality and his all-consuming passion for the wilderness.
He was the recipient of a 1976 literary travel fellowship that had been established in honor of poet Amy Lowell .
