ABOUT JOHN MAUCHLY
Co-creator of ENIAC, the first general-purpose electronic computer. He and his partner, J Presper Eckert, were the first to establish fundamental computer concepts such as the stored program and programming languages.
He and ENIAC co-designer J. Presper Eckert met at the Moore School of Electrical Engineering at the University of Pennsylvania: he did the conceptual design of the computer, and Eckert built the hardware.
Taking up an entire room at UPenn, his computer could calculate ballistic firing equations in 30 seconds that took people 20 hours.
He was born in Cincinnati, Ohio, his father Sebastian a physicist at the Carnegie Institute of Washington, D.C.
Howard Aiken also helped in designing and building the world's first electronic computers.
