ABOUT JOHN REED

Journalist and activist who is most widely remembered for his 1919 book Ten Days That Shook the World, his first-hand account of the Bolshevik Revolution. He was a Communist who was considered a martyr for the movement following his death.

He was born in Portland and began attending Harvard College in 1906.

The Oscar-winning 1981 film Reds, directed by Warren Beatty , was based on his life.

He was married to feminist writer Louise Bryant.
