ABOUT JOHN WALKER
Former middle-distance runner from New Zealand who won a gold medal in the 1976 Montreal Olympic Games 1500m.
He participated in sports during high school.
He set a world record in Sweden for fastest time per mile, becoming the first person to run it in under 3:50.
He fathered four children with his wife, Helen.
He became the second-fastest New Zealander to run the 800 metres, behind Peter Snell .
