ABOUT JOHN WILDE

Surrealist painter who crafted grotesque and darkly comical images. Foremost example of the Magic Realism movement.

He studied for a time at the New York Art Students League but returned to his native Wisconsin during the Great Depression years.

His works were included in the Surrealism USA exhibition at the National Academy Museum in New York. Some of his paintings were also put on permanent display at the Art Institute of Chicago and at the Carnegie Museum of Art.

He developed a love of drawing at an early age. He had two children with his first wife Helen.

He and Joan Miro were both well-known Surrealist painters; Miro was active in the early part of the 20th century.
