Singer and bandleader who was best known as the leader of the salsa and merengue orchestra known as The Combo Show. Some of his best-known albums include 1963's Cuidado Con el Cuabero and 1971's Ah..! Yo No Se...No.
He won a singing contest broadcast by La Voz de la Alegria at age sixteen.
He was the mayor of his home city of Santo Domingo from 1998 to 2002.
He married Nelly Josefina Flores de Ventura in 1970. They had three children together. He had four children from other relationships.
He has been compared to Elvis Presley .
