ABOUT JONATHAN MARC SHERMAN

American playwright known for writing popular stage plays from the 1980s through the 2020s, including Things We Want and Knickerbocker. He appeared in his first major film as "Ira Weitzman" in the 2021 movie Tick, Tick... Boom! The musical drama was directed by theater and film star Lin-Manuel Miranda .

He made his theatrical debut as The Artful Dodger in a Pittsburgh Civic Light Opera production of Oliver! in 1983. He got his start in playwriting submitting the one-act play Serendipity and Serenity to Young Playwrights Festival at Playwrights Horizons for a staged reading in 1987.

He was brought in as a writer and actor for one episode of the anthology series American Playhouse in 1990.

He was born in Morristown, New Jersey.

His play Things We Want was performed in 2007 and featured Ethan Hawke as director and Peter Dinklage as Sty.
