ABOUT JUDY GRAHN

Feminist poet and nonfiction author known for Blood, Bread, and Roses: How Menstruation Created the World; Edward the Dyke and Other Poems; The Queen of Swords, and other works. She was a recipient of the Lambda Literary Award and the American Book Award.

She joined the United States Air Force, but was discharged at age twenty-one because of her homosexual orientation.

She taught at the New College of California and at the Institute for Transpersonal Psychology.

She was born in Chicago, but she spent most of her youth in the New Mexico desert.

Grahn and Audre Lorde were contemporaries and fellow lesbian, feminist poets.
