ABOUT JULIA ALVAREZ
Latina author of In the Time of Butterflies, How the Garcia Girls Lost Their Accents, and other novels. Her poetic works include The Woman I Kept to Myself and Homecoming.
She attended Syracuse University and Connecticut College and later served as Middlebury College's Writer-in-Residence.
She received a Hispanic Heritage Award in Literature.
She was born into a Dominican-American family in New York City. She married Bill Eichner in 1989.
She was a close friend of fellow author Sandra Cisneros .
