ABOUT KAREL APPEL

Avant garde painter and sculptor who joined COBRA in 1948. He sculpted with a wide variety of materials and painted them bright colors.

He began his career by painting a still life of a fruit basket when he was 14 years old.

He established the Karel Appel Foundation to preserve and display his artwork.

He had three siblings.

He was inspired by Henri Matisse .
