Karen Swenson
ABOUT KAREN SWENSON
American poet and journalist known for The Landlady in Bangkok, A Sense of Direction, East-West: Poems, and other works. She was the 1993 recipient of A National Poetry Series Award.
She studied at New York University and Barnard College. She published her debut poetry collection, An Attic of Ideals, in 1974.
Her poetic work, A Daughter's Latitude, recounts both foreign travel and metaphorical trips to childhood landscapes.
She was born in New York City and raised in Chappaqua, New York.
She and former North Carolina Poet Laureate Fred Chappell were both born in 1936.
