ABOUT KELLY CHERRY

Former Poet Laureate of Virginia whose best-known works include Death and Transfiguration, Rising Venus, and Hazard and Prospect. Also a fiction and nonfiction writer, she published such works as In the Wink of an Eye and The Exiled Heart.

She attended the University of Virginia and the University of North Carolina-Greensboro. Beginning in the late 1970s, she taught at the University of Wisconsin-Madison.

She wrote reviews for the Los Angeles Times and the New York Book Review.

She was born in Louisiana and raised in New York and Virginia. She married Burke Davis III.

She and Sylvia Plath were both twentieth-century American poets.
