American actress who received an Independent Spirit Award for Best Female Lead for her role in 1989's Drugstore Cowboy.

She studied at the Guthrie Theater in Minneapolis.

She appeared in a number of films in the early 1990s, including Curly Sue, Three of Hearts, Imaginary Crimes, and Virtuosity.

She married producer Mitch Glazer in 1992. She has a son named Shane.

She starred opposite Patrick Swayze in the 1989 film Road House.
