Midfielder who made his senior career debut in 1976 for Sunderland, and played until the 1990s.
He played his youth soccer with Sunderland as a teenager.
He most notably played for Sheffield United from 1982 to 1987, though some of the time was spent on loan.
He grew up in Gateshead, Tyne and Wear.
He left Sunderland after not getting much playing time under manager Alan Durban .
