He grew up as a member of the Birla family in Kolkata and Mumbai.
He became chairman of the Aditya Birla Group when he was 28 after his father suddenly and unexpectedly died.
He married and had three children with Neerja Birla.
His father, Aditya Birla , founded the Aditya Birla Group to produce textiles, cement, and aluminum fertilizers.
