ABOUT LJ SMITH

Best-selling author of young adult literature, she is best known for The Vampire Diaries and the Night World series. Her other works include the Secret Circle, Forbidden Game, and Dark Visions series.

She studied at the University of California, Santa Barbara, and at the University of San Francisco. Following her graduation, she taught elementary school for several years.

She wrote her first book, The Night of the Solstice, during her high school and college years. She passed away at the age of 66, as a result of complications from an autoimmune disease.

She was born in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, and was raised in Anaheim, California.

Her book, The Vampire Diaries, was turned into a television series by screenwriter Kevin Williamson .
