ABOUT LAURA NYRO
Singer-songwriter and pianist who released the album New York Tendaberry in 1969. She was a Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductee in 2012.
She would sing with friends on street corners and in subway stations. She sold the song "And When I Die" to Peter, Paul and Mary.
Although diagnosed with ovarian cancer, she lived to see the release of her double-disc retrospective CD put together by Columbia Records.
She married David Bianchini in September 1971 and they divorced in 1976.
Her bestselling single was a recording of Carole King's "Up on the Roof."
