An American author, she is known for novels such as Passion and Affect and Shine On, Bright and Dangerous Object. She also published a nonfiction book entitled Home Cooking.
She was a regular contributor to magazines such as Gourmet, Mademoiselle, Allure, and Playboy.
She died from a heart attack at the age of forty-eight.
She married Juris Jurjevics; they had one daughter together.
She and Clarence Day both contributed to The New Yorker.
