Best known for collaborating with Ralph Rainger on Thanks for the Memory, Bob Hope's signature song.
He once worked as a reporter and a publicist and studied at the University of Pittsburgh School of Law and the drama school at Carnegie Tech.
He was inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame in 1972.
He was raised in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. He was married three times, with his third wife being Cherie Volman.
His song Thanks for the Memory was first featured in the film The Big Broadcast of 1938, which Hope sang with Shirley Ross. The movie also starred W.C. Fields .
