Leo Yankevich
ABOUT LEO YANKEVICH
American poet and editor known for The Gnosis of Gnomes, Grief's Herbs, The Last Silesian, and other works. Also a translator, he produced English versions of the works of Georg Trakl , Czeslaw Milosz , and other prominent writers.
Born in Pennsylvania, he immigrated to Poland following the 1989 collapse of the Iron Curtain.
He published his debut poetry chapbook, The Language of Birds, in 1994.
He was born into a Catholic family of Polish and Irish heritage. He later raised three sons.
He translated selected poems by Rainer Maria Rilke into English.
