Blind country singer who released many hits, including "You've Still Got a Place in my Heart." His career lasted from 1941 to 1969, during which time he composed more than one hundred songs.
He was a student at the Texas School for the Blind.
His songs have been covered by Hank Williams Sr. , Elvis Presley , Willie Nelson , and many other artists.
He raised two children and two step-children with his wife Myrtie.
His song "I Love You Because" was covered by Johnny Cash .
