ABOUT LEONARD HILTON MCGURR
Multimedia artist known as Futura who pioneered the thin stroked, airbrushed look of abstract street art. He designed the special edition Hennessy V.S. bottle in 2012. He has over 380,000 followers on his futuradosmil Instagram account.
He started painting illegally in the subways of New York in the 1970s. He painted backdrops for punk rock band The Clash 's 1981 European tour.
His work was published in various books including Coming from the Subway at Groninger Museum in 1992, Beautiful Losers in 2004, and Art in the Streets at Museum of Contemporary Art, Los Angeles in 2011.
He has a daughter named Tabatha McGurr.
He went to high school with artist Jean-Michel Basquiat .
