Leroy Robertson
ABOUT LEROY ROBERTSON
Mormon composer and teacher best known for compositions like Songs from the Shadow. He was Professor and Chairman of the Music Department at BYU from 1925 to 1948.
He graduated with diplomas in Composition, Violin, and Piano from the New England Conservatory of Music in 1923.
The Lord's Prayer from his Oratorio from the Book of Mormon managed to crack the top 50 on the music charts upon its release.
His daughter is respected cellist Marian Robertson Wilson.
He and fellow composer Roger Sessions both knew and studied with composer Ernest Bloch.
