She made her musical stage debut in 1979 after graduating from the Royal Academy of Music.
She has performed with the English National Opera and the Welsh National Opera.
She has two children named Jeremy and Chloe with her husband Peter.
She placed third against winner Natasha Kaplinsky in the first season of the U.K. series Strictly Come Dancing.
