ABOUT LESTER BANGS

American rock music journalist whose work was published in Creem and Rolling Stone.

He began freelance writing in 1969 at the age of twenty one. His first piece was published in Rolling Stone.

He was known for his radical style and approach to his work, including climbing onstage with a band and typing a review as they were playing.

Although he was born in California, his parents, Norma Belle and Conway Bangs, were from Texas. His father died in a fire when he was young.

He was played by Philip Seymour Hoffman in the popular film Almost Famous.
