Lester Bird
ABOUT LESTER BIRD
This Antigua Labour Party politician held office from 1994 until 2004 as Prime Minister of Antigua and Barbuda. Previously, he had served in both the Senate and the House of Representatives of Antingua and Barbuda.
After finishing secondary school in Antigua, he enrolled at the University of Michigan and went on to study law in England. He entered politics in the early 1970s.
During his time at the University of Michigan, he was designated an All-American athlete in the long jump event.
Though raised primarily in Antigua, he was born in New York City, U.S.A. His older brother, Vere Bird, Jr., also had a prominent career as a politician, and his father, Vere Bird, held office as Antigua and Barbuda's first Prime Minister.
He and Dana Seetahal both had prominent political careers in Caribbean nations (Seetahal served in the Trinidad and Tobago Senate).
