ABOUT LESTER FRANK WARD
American botanist, paleontologist, and sociologist who served as the first president of the American Sociological Association and had a belief that society could be scientifically controlled.
He did farm work with his brother as a young boy and later worked as a teacher in a small country school.
He was named Paleontologist for the USGS from 1892 until 1906.
He was married twice and had a child who died as a baby.
He was remembered for his relentless attack on fellow scientist Herbert Spencer Gasser 's theories.
