She taught English at Jordan High School in Los Angeles. She dabbled in screenwriting and was nominated for an Emmy for an episode of M*A*S*H* called Hot Lips and Empty Arms, which was written with Mary Kay Place .
She was less successful with Emeril, a sitcom attempt by chef Emeril Lagasse .
She married Harry Thomason in July 1983.
Her friendship with President Bill Clinton dated back to his time as the Governor of Arkansas.
