Actress who landed one of her most visible roles when she was cast in a recurring part on Orange Is the New Black . She went on to become a regular on the Comedy Central series Awkwafina Is Nora from Queens.
She appeared in a Broadway production of Lovely Ladies, Kind Gentlemen in 1970.
She won a 2003 Helen Hayes Award for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Resident Musical for South Pacific.
Her family is of Hoisan, Chinese descent.
In 1990, she recurred on the sitcom Roseanne alongside Roseanne Barr and John Goodman .
